A Love Letter to a Favourite Story
The project is to pick a book and promote it in a 30–60 second trailer. In it, I must communicate a sense of the subject matter and story without resorting to a simple book synopsis. Using both visuals and sounds, I had to sell the appeal of the book to the target audience through intrigue and atmosphere. The direction my trailer took was to play off the idea of spreading ghost stories through rumours and creating a surreal world surrounding the crab story I chose to focus on as the first spirit encountered in the book. The focus on paper is derived from the act of passing notes during class while also creating a medium between the real world and the spiritual, where unnatural things can come to life through the paper. Using both practical stop motion and digital animation, I constructed this trailer.
